The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Tulare County continues to climb and surpassed 200 cases.
Tulare County Public Health Branch, on Saturday, announced 227 people in the county tested positive for the new coronavirus — a 24 patient increase from Friday.
There are now 389 people under self-quarantine being monitored by public health officials. That number will fluctuate daily, health officials said.

Here’s a break down of cases:
- 26 – Travelers
- 141 – Person to person contacts
- 60 – Under investigation
As of Saturday, 11 patients have died and 11 have recovered, according to county health officials. Visalia remains the hotbed for cases, accounting for 134. The foothills area now has 35 cases.
The Public Health Branch asks community members to follow the governor’s stay-at-home order to “flatten the curve” and slow the spread of COVID-19.
Additionally, county and city parks are closed Easter weekend to help slow the spread of the virus. Public health officials also discouraged large gatherings for the holiday weekend.

Curve is flattening, Newsom team reports, but vigilance needed on stay-at-home order
The U.S. surpassed Italy for the most fatalities worldwide Saturday.
Coronavirus deaths in the U.S. topped 20,000 after a record-high death count Friday of more than 2,100 fatalities. But the U.S. has not yet “reached the peak” of the pandemic, according to Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force.
Worldwide, there are 1.7 million cases and at least 107,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. Almost 400,000 people have recovered worldwide.
