GUNNED DOWN
Arsenal players have rejected a proposal from the club to only take a pay cut should they fail to qualify for the Champions League, according to reports.
Like all clubs, the Gunners are trying to work out how to reduce the financial impact of coronavirus.
The Emirates side posted losses of £27.1million in February and 25 per cent of their revenue comes from matchday income.
So they were hopeful cutting back on their £230m annual wage bill – described by director Josh Kroenke as “a Champions League wage bill on a Europa League budget” – would help ease the burden.
But according to The Telegraph, the suggestion of using Champions League qualification as a motivator was a non-starter with the Arsenal players.

CHAMPING AT THE BIT
Uefa’s latest suggested solution to complete the Champions League would see a three-week August bonanza, according to reports.
Europe’s governing body are desperately scratching their heads to piece together a plan to finish the current campaign, as well as the Europa League.
They have already postponed the finals, initially by a month and then indefinitely, due to the coronavirus crisis which has put virtually all sport on hold.
But according to the Sunday Express, Uefa might try and stage the remaining matches across a three-week window later in the summer.

WIL DONE
Wilfried Zaha has been hailed for saving lives in his native Ivory Coast, SunSport can exclusively reveal.
The Crystal Palace star, 27, was praised for offering free accommodation to NHS frontline staff battling the coronavirus crisis in 50 apartments across London.
But back in his home country, his self-titled charity and Tomorrow Hope orphanage – both of which are funded by ten per cent of his £130,000 weekly wage – are doing laudable work too.
The Wilfried Zaha Foundation normally helps the elderly in remote parts of the country, aids women who have lost their partners get back on their feet and teaches basic skills to disadvantaged youths.
But during the Covid-19 outbreak, it is helping as many people as possible get by after shops and schools were closed during the country’s current lockdown.
