Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday the extension of the public health emergency in Washington, D.C., for another month, prolonging a school shutdown.

Schools will remain closed through May 15, according to the mayor’s new order. Bowser’s previous order closed schools through at least April 24.

The order also extends other coronavirus-related restrictions in the city, including a stay-at-home order, closures of nonessential businesses and a ban on large gatherings.

In Maryland, schools are closed through April 24, and there has been no announcement yet of an extension. In Virginia, schools are closed for the rest of the school year.
