The Spaniard, named as replacement for the long-serving Arsene Wenger last summer, could yet lead Arsenal back into Europe’s premier competition of course with victory in the Europa League final last this month, and can take plenty of positives.
After an entertaining first half in East Lancashire, it was Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng who opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half when he latched onto a poor back pass from Jack Cork and fired into the net.
Aubameyang then netted his second 11 minutes later when he flashed a fine volley into the net after good work by Alex Iwobi.
Ashley Barnes then reduced the deficit for the Clarets two minutes later, but Eddie Nketiah scored Arsenal’s third in added-time to wrap up the win.
