Manchester United shouldn’t get carried away with Bruno Fernandes because he might not have what it takes to be world class.
That’s the controversial opinion of former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson, who has set the Portuguese a challenge for the next few seasons.
United spent £47million on Fernandes in the January transfer window, and the midfielder has settled in quickly at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are yet to lose with the Portugal international on the pitch, and fans are confident the club will soon be competing with Liverpool and Man City once again.
But Robson has warned United supporters must hold their horses, admitting he’s not convinced Fernandes will save the day.

“I wouldn’t get too carried away,” Robson told ESPN. “He’s a good signing, but I’m not sure he’s going to be a world-class player.
“He’s a good signing for them at the moment, but just be careful it isn’t the first few weeks where he’s played well, he’s got to do it for a couple more years.”
Fernandes has been the subject of much discussion among pundits of late, but the Portuguese is usually on the receiving end of praise.

Notoriously hard to please Graeme Souness recently spoke out about the United midfielder, telling Sky Sports: “I think he’s a real goal threat, a year ago he got 33 goals for Sporting in all competitions, which is phenomenal for a midfield player.
“And he always wants the ball. Playing for Man United, playing for any of the truly monster clubs out there, sometimes people can go into their shell a bit. He’s not shown any signs of that.

“He’ll be aware that coming from Sporting, they’re one of the big teams in Portugal and whenever they play a team it’s the opposition’s cup final, so he’ll be aware of that challenge that comes in every game, not just now and again.
“It’s early for us to say that he’s going to be the major influence that they were looking for at United, I think he will need help in that area. But he’s certainly made a great start to his career.”
