Werder Bremen chief on chances of Rashica transfer

The sporting director of Werder Bremen has warned clubs interested in Milot Rashica that he won’t be sold on the cheap just because of the knock-on effect that the coronavirus pandemic is having on the football industry.

Kosovo international Rashica, 23, has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs and reports suggest Aston Villa are among the teams fighting for his signature.

Villa were credited with an interest in January in January but no club was willing to meet Bremen’s £33million asking price.

Rashica has scored 10 times in 24 matches for Bremen this season, though only one of those goals has arrived since mid-December.

Sporting director Frank Baumann, though, insists that interested parties must cough up and meet the German side’s valuation of the player, but he admitted Bremen can’t hold onto talented Rashica indefinitely.

“It is not certain he will go in the summer. To do this, something must be found first which suits both sides, but we are not dreamers either,” Baumann told Deichstube.

“We know it is quite possible that Milot will be sold. I don’t think the Coronavirus crisis will affect his value.”

PL clubs unite in plan giving Villa chance to secure survival

Premier League clubs have united around a plan to restart matches from June 8.

Leagues across Europe have been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Aston Villa’s bid for top-flight survival on hold.

Villa have 10 games still to play, all of which are crucial with Dean Smith’s side currently sitting two points inside the relegation zone with a game in hand.

All 20 Premier League clubs met via a video conference on Friday to discuss plans for resuming and completing the season.

Grealish and McGinn linked with Newcastle

Takevoer talk at Newcastle United has already resulted in former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce being tipped to lose his job at St James’ Park.

Now, two Villa players are being linked with moves to the north east as a consortium of wealthy backers seemingly closes in on buying the Magpies from Mike Ashley.

A bid from PCP Capital Partners backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the Reuben Brothers is being looked at by the Premier League.

There is understandably a great deal of excitement on Tyneside about the spending power the £300m takeover could bring to the club.

Turkish side Trabzonspor keen on Wesley

Wesley is reportedly on the radar of Turkish top-flight outfit Trabzonspor.

The 23-year-old only arrived at Aston Villa last summer, signing from Club Brugge in a club record transfer deal.

After a mixed start to his claret and blue career, Wesley’s season was ended in January, after he suffered a serious knee injury in the win at Burnley.

Wesley is now back in Brazil, continuing on his long road to recovery – whilst also helping out his local community amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Villa handed Lopez transfer boost

Marseille’s dire financial situation means they are unable to offer Aston Villa target Maxime Lopez a new contract, according to reports.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League when the transfer window opens, with Villa rumoured to be among his admirers as well as Tottenham and West Ham.

Lopez is out contract next summer having last signed an extension three years ago.

Talks over a new deal were said to have stalled and Le10 Sport now report Marseille cannot afford to offer fresh terms.

McGrath issues plea from lockdown

Paul McGrath has issued an update from his lockdown – and urged people to think about nurses and doctors on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Aston Villa legend is sticking stringently to social distancing guidelines, staying inside his house in County Wicklow, Ireland. Living on his own, McGrath has admitted that it has probably come a little easier to him, than others.

Asked how he was getting on, he told the Irish Examiner: “The same as everybody else in these strange times.

“I feel for everybody else because I’m a little more used to it, to be fair.”
