Havertz makes transfer admission

Liverpool links with Kai Havertz stretches all the way back to 2017 and the midfielder has now admitted he is open to a move outside the Bundesliga when he leaves Bayer Leverkusen.

The 20-year-old is one of the most-wanted midfielders in Europe with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus, in addition to Liverpool, supposedly interested in the midfielder.

Bayern Munich were, however, viewed as the frontrunners to sign Havertz but the Germany international has now said he is prepared to leave his homeland if the right opportunity comes along.

“Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good,” he said, speaking to Sport Bild. “I have always said that. But, of course, I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That’s my ambition.

“I’m ready to take a big step and I like challenges. For me, this also includes abroad. The coach is a very important person for me. It must be a good fit. You can see that with our coach, Peter Bosz.

“For me, the sporting direction of the club is also reflected in the choice of coach.”

Agent reveals Liverpool pursuit of Brazilian starlet

Liverpool were the first club to offer Brazilian winger – and now Real Madrid player – Rodrygo Goes a professional contract, according to his agent Nick Arcuri.

“When Rodrygo went to make his first professional contract with Santos, aged 16, a Liverpool director called me,” he told Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola (via SportsWitness).

“He said Klopp already knew the player, had seen the material, had already come to see Rodrygo personally. He had entered YouTube, searched ‘talents from Brazil’, Rodrygo had appeared and he was very young. He came to Brazil, liked him.”

Arcuri claims he subsequently visited Liverpool’s London office to hold talks with the Reds over a deal before taking the proposal back to Santos president Modesto Roma Junior.

“Modesto didn’t accept,” he said. “It turned out that Santos didn’t want to sell Rodrygo and [they] offered the first professional contract. But Rodrygo’s first official proposal came when he was 16 and it was from Liverpool.”

Real Madrid would later strike a €45m deal with Santos for Rodrygo who arrived at the Bernabeu last summer and scored a hattrick in the Champions League group stage win over Galatasaray earlier this season.

Karius received death threats after UCL final

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, currently on loan at Besiktas, admits he received death threats after his two costly mistakes in the 2018 Champions League final.

The German was at fault Karim Benzema’s opener and Gareth Bale’s 83rd minute shot which ended Jurgen Klopp’s side’s chances. But it was later revealed Karius had suffered a concussion after a collision with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos earlier in the game.

That didn’t spare him from fierce abuse in the weeks that followed and the 26-year-old says he should have been more forceful in his response.

“There were some of them (death threats) but I can’t take that seriously,” he told Sport Bild.

“Players receive some extremely hostile messages on the internet. If you read every message, you wouldn’t be able to sleep for two days.

“It’s insane what people come out with under the guise of anonymity, badly insulting others, discriminating against them and then becoming racist.”

Karius added: “In retrospect, I should have dealt with it publicly much more aggressively. I had a concussion after a blow from Sergio Ramos, which restricted my spatial vision.

“When the result was released, there was a lot of malice and insult, often well below the belt. I never used it as an excuse. But when people make fun of someone who has badly injured their head, I have no understanding.”
