More than a dozen states have extended stay-home orders past White House deadline

California

Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a six-point plan this week for which he says all conditions must be met before any modifications are made to the state’s stay home-order. Newsom and the leaders of Oregon and Washington announced a regional pact this week to coordinate any loosening of social distancing restrictions.

Connecticut

Last week Gov. Ned Lamont signed an extension of Connecticut’s shelter-in-place order until May 20, and the state joined half a dozen others in the northeast in announcing a coordinated reopening strategy.

Delaware

Delaware’s stay home order will remain in place until May 15, though the state will coordinate lifting its restrictions with the leaders of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

District of Columbia

The nation’s capital will remain under a shelter-in-place order until May 15 after an extension this week by Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Kentucky

Gov. Andy Beshear has not announced an end date for Kentucky’s “healthy at home” order, but suggested this week that any lifting of restrictions will be done in “lockstep” with neighboring Indiana and Ohio.

Maryland

Maryland is under a shelter-in-place order until further notice.

Massachusetts

Gov. Charlie Baker extended Massachusetts’ stay home advisory and closure of nonessential businesses until May 4, though Baker is part of a pact of northeastern governors planning to coordinate loosened restrictions.

Minnesota

Minnesota residents are under a stay home order until May 4 after Gov. Tim Walz extended the mandate.

New Hampshire

The shelter-in-place order issued by Gov. Chris Sununu last month is in effect until May 4.

New Jersey

New Jerseyans are under a stay home order until further notice but Gov. Phil Murphy will coordinate the reopening of the state with his counterparts in New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

New York

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday he was extending his state’s shelter-in-place order until May 15.

Oregon

Gov. Kate Brown’s stay home order is in effect indefinitely, and will be coordinated with the leaders of California and Washington.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island’s shelter-in-place order was recently extended through May 8 by Gov. Gina Raimondo.

Vermont

Vermont will remain under a shelter-in-place order until May 15.

Virginia

Gov. Ralph Northam’s stay home order for Virginians, signed last month, is set to last until June 10, good for the longest duration of any other state.

Washington

Gov. Jay Inslee’s shelter-in-place order lifts on May 4, though the governor said that could be extended, and any lifting of restrictions will be coordinated with the governors of Oregon and California.

West Virginia

In West Virginia, which was the last state in the nation to report a confirmed case of coronavirus, Gov. Jim Justice’s stay home order is in effect until further notice.
