Gary Neville has left non-league club Brighouse Town “overwhelmed” after pledging a significant donation to the non-league side amid the coronavirus chaos.
The BetVictor Northern Premier League side have seen their season cancelled after the pandemic ended football at the sixth tier and below, and they set up a JustGiving page in order to help with the running costs of the club.
Neville says he formed a bond with Brighouse after watching them play the Salford City side he part owns in what proved to be the last match he saw with his late father Neville Neville.
He said: “Brighouse Town holds a special place in my heart even though the result did not go in our favour with Salford City suffering a 3-1 defeat on the day.”
