Costco is granting first responders and health care workers priority access

On Wednesday Costco announced it would be implementing a priority policy at its stores for healthcare employees, EMTs, police officers and firefighters during social distancing, the Hill reports.

In Costco’s official statement, it announced that all healthcare workers and first responders will be able to move to the front of any Costco warehouse line upon showing their Costco cards and job identification, during any of the store’s open hours.

With USA Today reporting that some Costco locations have hour-long lines out the door, the new policy is certainly an added benefit for those working on the frontlines to fight COVID-19.

It follows other social distancing policies, limiting how people can enter the store per membership card and in total, limiting the quantities customers can purchase of certain high-demand products, and implementing special hours for seniors and immunocompromised individuals from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, Fox News reports.

Costco isn’t the only store giving priority to first responders and health care providers. Today reports Winn-Dixie has added a special shopping hour for “frontline warriors,” and Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Lucky stores have been giving priority access to those workers as well.
