Whole Foods worker dies of COVID-19, store confirms

An employee at Whole Foods in Swampscott has died from COVID-19, a company spokesperson said.“Whole Foods Market is mourning the loss of a member of our community who passed away on April 15, 2020, due to COVID-19,” the grocery chain said in a statement.A former coworker said the victim, Leon Marin, was a cook at the store. Marin, who was in his 50s and lived in Lynn, became ill around April 4. The housing advocacy group Lynn United for Change said Marin was a kind, hard worker. It has set up a gofundme page for Marin’s family.Marin also worked at Logan Airport, his former co-worker said.Whole Foods is offering grief counseling support to other employees.“Our hearts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and with his fellow Team Members at our Swampscott, Massachusetts, store,” the spokesperson added. “We are offering counseling support to our Team Members as we grieve this tremendous loss.”Marin’s is the second cornoravirus death of a grocery store worker. Vitalina Williams, 59, who worked at the Salem Market Basket and the Lynn Walmart, died last week.
