Covid-19
If you’re anxious about when your coronavirus relief payment will arrive—or where to look for the money—you can now get answers to those questions.
The IRS tool to track your coronavirus payment is live. It allows you not only to see the status of your payment, but also to input the direct deposit information if your payment has not yet been issued.
Most people don’t need to use this tool. If you received your 2018 or 2019 tax refund by direct deposit and your bank account info is still the same, you don’t need to provide any details to the IRS. If you receive Social Security benefits, you don’t have to do anything either—even if you don’t typically file taxes, the IRS has your info for the purpose of providing your relief payment.
But if you’re wondering where your payment is, you can check your status in just a few minutes.
To check your payment status, you must enter your Social Security number, date of birth, and mailing address. You may need to verify the adjusted gross income (AGI) from your most recent tax return and the amount you owed or were refunded. To find your AGI, look on line line 8b on your 2019 1040 form, or line 7 on your 2018 1040.
If you need to add payment information, you’ll need your bank routing and account numbers.
The site is likely to see high volume in the next few days, so be aware that it may not work perfectly.
Payments began rolling out earlier this week, but mailed checks are expected to be mailed out weekly through early September.
If you need to supply information to the IRS because you typically don’t file taxes, you can use this system. You can also update your address if you want to receive your payment by check.
