What Meunier has said about United amid transfer links
Speaking to SFR Sport in 2017, Meunier revealed his support for United and could not resist a dig at rivals Manchester City when asked who he plays as on EA Sports’ FIFA games.
“Manchester,” he replied. “The real one, Man United . Because I’ve always been a fan.”
Last month, Meunier name-dropped United while discussing his future and admitted he wants to extend his contract in the French capital.
“The club and management know, I would like to finish my contract at PSG or why not extend it,” he told RTBF .
“If this is done, so much the better and if that is not done, we will see what is possible and we will go elsewhere.
“At the level of rumours, I am quoted everywhere. Only beautiful clubs come out: Manchester United, Juve, Dortmund, these are just exceptional clubs.
“But that’s also the chance to evolve in a club like Paris-Saint-Germain because, even with little play time, they offer you some visibility.
“We know that the PSG rarely invests on players who are not worth it in quotation marks. So I hope to find a nice base if PSG does not want to prolong the adventure.”

“The two games in particular that stood out for me was the game against Arsenal – that’s when I really understood the speed of the Premier League and the attention to detail that is required – and in terms of building my confidence, the stand-out game was against Manchester United.
“In terms of the game with Manchester United, it was probably one of the best of the season.
“I managed to get an assist in that game (his clever, chipped pass set up Sadio Mane’s opener) and I really kept up with the rhythm and pace. I think we were much superior than Manchester United.”

Jose Mourinho claims he ‘felt caged’ in England
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho claims that he felt trapped by English football because he wasn’t allowed to speak his mind about match officials.
“I lived in England most of those years (the 15 years since he left Portugal)” Mourinho told Eleven Sports.
“I also spent some years in Spain where we walked there in the same habitat. Italy not so much. Italy really likes the game, the tactics. I usually have people talking about it, more polemic, less polemic, more aggressiveness, less aggressiveness, but they are people of great credibility and you have great names in football to discuss about football.
“But in England it’s day and night. For example, I’ve sometimes felt almost caged because you can’t even comment on the referee before the game. I was punished and well punished for pre-match statements and statements such as ‘I hope the referee is very well, that he resists pressure from Anfield Road, that he has an excellent performance’. This is forbidden. This is considered to somehow induce the referee, put some kind of pressure on him.
“Even speaking well of the referee, as I did, I was punished. In Portugal, you tell referees what you want, before the game, during and after the game, you’re punished with ridiculous small fines. There’s total impunity. And we’re talking only at this level. And then obviously we’re a country that should like this.
“The kind of TV shows that exist in Portugal and that exist simultaneously in three, four, five different channels and that are repeated from Monday to Sunday and that survive, is because Portuguese people like this. So maybe we have the football we want to have.”
