  2. Post update

    USA 2-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

When you are playing against a side dropping so deep it is difficult for an attacking to team to break them down but the US are doing it so well moving the ball one and two-touch.

  3. Post update

    USA 2-0 Thailand

Since the start of 2018, Alex Morgan has scored 22 goals for USA Women in all competitions, at least 10 more than any other player.

  4. Video Assistant Referee

    USA 2-0 Thailand

It is being checked by VAR, Samantha Mewis is cleared dragged but no penalty is given!

Am I imagining a foul there? How is that NOT a penalty?

They have technology and still get the decision wrong.

  5. PENALTY APPEAL

    USA 2-0 Thailand

Samantha Mewis down in the box under a challenge from Thailand skipper Kanjana Sung-Ngoen.

Referee Laura Fortunato waves play on.

  6. comments

Chris Kaye: Just witnessed the worst reaction to a goal ever. US playing Thailand in the Women’s World Cup, three Americans are in the pub chatting away, one minute after the US score one of them notices and says “oh yay we scored.”

Glenn: USA look a cut above the rest. Can’t believe how small the Thailand keeper is.

  7. Should have been three, but Alex Morgan skies a shot from six yards out.

She was under pressure from a Thailand defender though.

  8. ‘That was a goalkeeping error’

    USA 2-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

That was a goalkeeping error. Rose Lavelle did well, she knows when to dribble, when to pass and when to let one go.

But I don’t think she caught that one well.

  9. goal

    GOAL – USA 2-0 Thailand

    Rose Lavelle

    Lead. Doubled.

Superb forward play from Alex Morgan, holding the ball up and laying it off for Rose Lavelle.

The Washington Spirit player beats a defender and has a go from 25 yards out and it sneaks in at the near post.

Awful goalkeeping from Sukanya Chor-Charoenying though, she should have easily saved it.

  10. ‘Thailand need to invest’

    USA 0-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

If they are going to improve and develop Thailand need money to be invested to compete and challenge.

Full-time players against part-time players is such a mismatch, they just can’t keep the ball.

  11. Post update

    USA 1-0 Thailand

19 minutes in and USA goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has had two touches of the ball.

    Redundant.

  12. Post update

    USA 1-0 Thailand

She has had a few goes now, but none of her efforts have worked the goalkeeper yet.

Samantha Mewis picks the ball up 25 yards out and strides forward, but then skews a shot wide.

  13. Post update

    USA 1-0 Thailand

    BBC Four

“This could be a very big score,” says Jonathan Pearce on BBC comms.

    Too right.

You can watch the game on BBC Four or at the top of this page.

    Tom Garry

BBC Sport at Stade Auguste-Delaune, Reims

It was on a plate for Alex Morgan and she doesn’t miss those!

This expectant crowd have the early goal they wanted. Around half of them have American flags and they’re all being waved in the air now.

  16. Post update

    USA 1-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

It was a really good bit of play from Kelley O’Hara. She has so much energy, she looked to join in and what a lovely little dinked ball in for Alex Morgan.

She knew exactly where Morgan was going to be.

  17. goal

    GOAL – USA 1-0 Thailand

    Alex Morgan

It’s the USA superstar, she is off and running.

The defending champions take a deserved lead through Alex Morgan, peeling off Natthakarn Chinwong at the back post and nodding in from Kelley O’Hara’s cross.

That’s Morgan’s 102nd international goal, she will not have scored many more easier.

  18. ‘They have got big hearts’

    USA 0-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

The one thing this Thailand side will do is work hard and get stuck in. They have got big hearts.

  19. Post update

    USA 0-0 Thailand

The tall Samantha Mewis is causing lots of problems for the Thailand players, who are lacking a few inches.

Mewis makes a late dart into the box ala Frank Lampard, but her first time effort from Kelley O’Hara’s cross goes wide.

  20. Post update

    USA 0-0 Thailand

    Sue Smith

Former England forward on BBC Four

Alex Morgan has been brilliant linking up the play. That’s what America have got though, that real quality to make a difference all over the pitch.
