Romelu Lukaku transfer: Antonio Conte discusses Inter Milan interest in Man Utd star - Mirror Online

Antonio Conte refused to comment on reports linking Romelu Lukaku with Inter Milan.

The former Chelsea boss has landed his first job since leaving Stamford Bridge last summer.

Conte wanted to sign Lukaku during his time with Chelsea and has been tipped to renew his interest this summer.

United are looking for around £80m for Lukaku, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer willing to let him go before the start of next season.

But Conte refused to be pressed on whether he will make a move for the Belgian hitman – denying he has already met with the Serie A club.

“I think now it’s very difficult to talk about this. For sure, we have a plan to try to improve the team,” he told the BBC World Service.

“But it will be very important for the players, it will be very important to have a great will and great ambition, me, the players and the club, to try to reduce this gap.

“I repeat in this moment there is a sporting director to talk about this and do this question about the transfer market, about the players. But I repeat, now we are very focused to do the first step and to work together.”

Inter have also been linked with Lukaku’s United teammate Alexis Sanchez but Conte is keeping his cards close to his chest.

Asked about the Chilean, he said: “You’re talking about the transfer market, you have to talk to the sporting director about this topic.”

Lukaku has reportedly been earmarked as a replacement for Mauro Icardi, who Conte could let go this summer.
