The best social media reaction to Liverpool’s win over Barcelona, including a tweet that quickly backfired, plus a World Cup squad announcement and an iconic goal – all in Social Shots.
In our new regular feature, we take a look at the best social media posts from across the world of football in the past 24 hours. Football and social media can go hand in hand, but not everyone gets it right. Here, we celebrate those that do, highlighting the posts that have made us chuckle, the videos of wonder goals that we’ve just had to watch again, or just anything we felt simply had to be shared…
Barcelona backfire
This aged well.
We score, Liverpool need FIVE – and we"re going to get at least one… agreed?

Busy ref
We feel like we’re on first name terms with Cuneyt Cakir by now. That man seems to be everywhere.
Fair play to Cuneyt Cakir for refereeing every single Champions League game I"ve ever watched.

Alisson’s value
It was a brilliant performance by Alisson against Barcelona, but even so, it appears that Liverpool paid way too much for him.
During the semi-final between Liverpool and Barcelona, it was said in commentary that Alisson was "worth his weight in gold".
He weighs 91kg, and gold is around £31,000 per kg – which gives him a notional worth of £2.8 million.
Liverpool paid £67 million.

Coutinho regret
What must Philippe Coutinho be thinking right now?

Vidal’s nightmare situation
Few Barcelona players will be feeling the pain of last night’s defeat more than Arturo Vidal…
After Barca’s first leg win, Arturo Vidal was asked about a potential Liverpool comeback. His response:
“I will donate my left testicle if Liverpool qualify & the right one to Real Madrid fans that supported them” pic.twitter.com/6XSNjUglT6

The unlikely hero
Divock Origi was asked to step up when Liverpool needed him most on the big stage, and he certainly delivered. Which is more than can be said for one entire big-spending club.
Divock Origi has scored more goals in European Cup / Champions League semi-finals than Paris Saint-Germain.

End of an era
The Champions League final just won’t be the same without them. Are we coming to the end of an era?
Karma for Ziyech
Ajax star Hakim Ziyech loves a nutmeg… and his teammates loved seeing him being on the receiving end of one for once.

On this day…
One of the most iconic goals ever scored by a keeper happened on this day 20 years ago. It was the goal that kept Carlisle United in the Football League, but not only that – it sealed Jimmy Glass’ place in football folklore.
