Kepa the penalty hero as Chelsea set up all-English final with Arsenal

Chelsea needed extra time and penalties to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt and book their place in the Europa League final.

After the two sides had drawn 1-1 in the first leg in Germany, the Blues were held to another draw of the same scoreline to send the game into extra time. They held on in the additional 30 minutes, meaning penalties were required to separate the two sides.

Kepa was the hero as Chelsea came out on top in the shootout to reach their second cup final this season, after the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave Chelsea the initiative in the first half, putting them 1-0 up just before the half hour mark.

However, Luka Jovic provided a clinical finish for the visitors to make things all square again towards the beginning of the second half.

There were to be no further goals in the regulation 90 minutes, meaning extra time was required.

Sebastian Haller had a glorious opportunity to put Frankfurt ahead in the first 15 minutes of extra time, but his shot was blocked on the line.

As penalties loomed, Cesar Azpilicueta had a goal disallowed after heading the ball out of Kevin Trapp’s hands.

It was the closest either side came to winning it in extra time, meaning penalties were required.

Kepa saved two penalties and Eden Hazard scored the winner to make it an all-English final.
