Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he did not envisage his side leading the Premier League with one game remaining.
City face Brighton on the south coast and know a win will secure back-to-back titles, but if they slip up and Liverpool defeat Wolves they will be pipped to the title.
Whatever the outcome on Sunday, Guardiola believes his players should be proud of the season they have produced.
City have already won the Carabao Cup this term and will try to add the FA Cup next week.
Guardiola told his pre-match press conference: “First of all it’s a dream to be here, I didn’t expect it when we were seven points behind.
“We’ve shown many things. If we make back to back it would be nice but nothing is going to change too much – the fact is we have done incredibly well all season.”
The Manchester City boss added on the prospect of facing Brighton: “We have analysed them this week.
“We know how well they defend. It is always difficult. We just have to focus on the game we play.”
The City boss preferred to concentrate on his own players rather than worry about Liverpool facing Wolves.
He said: “It is better to focus on what we have to do. If we win we don’t have to look at anything else. Why should we be distracted by anything else.”
Asked if the Liverpool score will affect City’s players, he said: “Honestly I don’t know. It will be nice if we score first but we analyse Brighton and know how well they defend.
“Tottenham won in the last minute with a fantastic goal, Arsenal drew when they won 4-2 at Valencia. I know it is always difficult . Just focus on the game we have to play.”
Guardiola also revealed midfielder Kevin De Bruyne could face Brighton on Sunday.
The Belgian has been out with a hamstring injury but could feature as leaders City bid to retain the title.
Guardiola said: “He has made part of the training sessions for the past two days. He could (play).”
On Fernandinho the news was not so good, with Guardiola adding: “He is not available. I don’t know (about the FA Cup final) – but maybe.”
