For years we have watched Sheldon knock three times, traveled with Howard to space, and discovered that alcohol can turn a selective mute into a confident player. We heard Bernadette’s voice mature over time, witnessed Penny’s career take off, and rejoiced as Amy finally shared a kiss with her boyfriend.
We’ve had fun with flags, listened to the soothing tones of “Soft Kitty,” and cringed when Mrs. Wolowitz squawked her son’s name. There were proposals, deaths, weddings, and babies. And now that the final season has come to an end, there will be a giant nerd hole left in the hearts and DVRs of many fans around the world.
Fortunately, things are looking good for our favorite scientists (and Penny).
Dreams Do Come True
Sheldon and Amy actually win the Nobel Peace Prize for Physics! They receive the call in the wee hours of the morning and the news is so exhilarating that Sheldon’s concerned he must be dreaming. So Leonard slaps him across the face. Aren’t the writers clever? Two dreams came true on the same day!
Pretty Woman
Amy is upset when she sees all of the paparazzi pictures of herself on the Internet. So Raj gives her a makeover. HELLO DR. FARRAH-FOWLER! Her hair is cut and styled. Her glasses are trendy. Her lips are red. Are those hips I see? I think I can see her cleavage! And look! Amy has kneecaps! Sheldon, of course, hates it. Penny, of course, talks Sheldon off the ledge, explaining that change is inevitable.
Baby Love
Penny is pregnant. Leonard is ecstatic.
Can You Take Me High Enough?
The elevator is now working!
Baby, It’s Cold Inside
Now we know why Leonard always wears a hoodie. Because Sheldon kept the apartment thermostat extremely low. The poor guy is always chilly!
Who’s That Girl? And Boy?
Halley and Michael are actual people! For the first time ever, we see the young Wolowitzes and they are adorable.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Raj is dating her. Sort of. I’ll allow it.
I’m Not Crying. You’re Crying.
Right before Sheldon’s Nobel Prize speech, he admits that his life is self-centered. During his speech, he thanks his family members, knowing that his accomplishments are not his alone. He’s been encouraged, sustained, inspired, and tolerated by a group of wonderful friends. Then he calls each by name, asks them to stand, thanks them, and apologizes for not being the friend they deserve.
There is no BAZINGA. The moment is sweet, sincere, and lovely. I appreciated the low-key ending of a show that started with a big bang.
