Mongolia teaches citizens how to prevent STDs - The Punch

Mongolia has launched a national campaign to raise people’s awareness about sexually transmitted infections, local media reported on Friday, citing the country’s Health Ministry.

“During the two-week campaign starting Thursday, the organisers will provide people with information about infections such as syphilis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and HIV through both traditional and social media.

“This is in a bid to improve people’s knowledge and awareness about how to prevent STIs,’’ the ministry said.

The national campaign under the motto “Let’s protect loved ones together’’ is co-organised by the Mongolian Health Ministry and National Centre for Communicable Disease.

“There were over 16,000 cases of STIs reported in the country in 2018, up to five per cent from the previous year,’’ the NCCD said; adding that over 76 per cent of the people with STIs were aged between 15 and 34.

According to the NCCD, about 70 per cent of the people with STIs were female.

According to the statement, syphilis, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis are the most common STIs in Mongolia.
