Real Madrid issue Gareth Bale threat, after agent infuriates Zidane

Real Madrid are prepared to dump Gareth Bale in their Under-23 side if he does not find a new club this summer, claims a report.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has confirmed that his client’s future under Zinedine Zidane looks far from assured and the 29-year-old was left out of the matchday squad as Madrid overcame Villarreal last weekend.

The Sun claim that Real are contacting teams in Europe and China to see if they want Bale and the report suggests Los Blancos could pay part of his £500,000-a-week-plus wages even if he moves on permanently.

The tabloid have quotes from a Real ‘source’: “There are people who give nothing to the team’s soul and ethos.

“They will not remain here under Zidane. This summer will be one of the busiest in the club’s recent history.”

Apparently Zidane is not happy with Barnett’s comments about Bale’s contract and the fact he will “quite happily see it out until 2022”.

Barnett, who has always played down speculation of a move for Bale, yesterday broke rank and admitted a summer transfer could happen.

“It certainly is possible if somebody puts their hand in their pocket and pays us what we think he deserves,” he told Sky Sports, when asked about a potential return to England. “You shouldn’t ask [how much]; it’s going to be a lot of money.”

Barnett then claimed the forward would also be happy to stay at the Bernabeu: “He wants to stay. I am not sure that Mr Zidane wants him to stay but at the moment Gareth wants to stay.

“He has got a contract, he will quite happily see it out until 2022. He has been and is, in my opinion, one of the top three or four players in the world.

“This game is a game of opinions and Mr Zidane doesn’t think that. That is his opinion, he is entitled to it, I won’t criticise him.”

Bale’s Madrid contract runs until 2022 and, while a move to Manchester United was strongly suggested last month or a return to Spurs have been mooted, no clear suitors have emerged to sign a man whose £85.3million transfer from White Hart Lane in 2013 was a world record at the time.

Last month Spanish news outlet Sport claimed Zidane – who has a turbulent relationship with the winger – was prepared to cut his losses with Bale and would accept £60m for his signature, despite previously wanting at least £30m more.
