The Sagamu Traditional Council has announced the commencement of traditional rites for the late Oba (Dr.) Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, the Akarigbo of Remoland.
The monarch joined his ancestors on Saturday, July 23, 2016 after a brief illness.
Information from the Sagamu Council of Obas as announced by the town crier early Friday morning around Sagamu township indicated that arrangements were on to give the late monarch a befitting burial.
“All shops and commercial centres in the nooks and crannies of Sagamu shall be closed after business on Saturday, 6 August, 2016.
“All markets in Sagamu and environs shall be shut down for two weeks, starting from Sunday 7 August, 2016. The popular Falawo market, Shagamu shall be closed for three months, starting from Sunday 7 August, 2016.
“There shall be no open place music or any form of public entertainment with music, starting from Sunday till 2 October, 2016. Traders in all markets within Sagamu are thereby advised to move their stocks and valuables from the markets latest today (Friday) as there will be no entrance to the markets once they are shut.
“There shall be restriction of movements around Ita Oba starting from Sunday. Parents and guardians are therefore advised to warn their wards from wandering and loitering around Ita Oba.
“All churches and mosques, in the spirit of peaceful coexistence, are free to carry out their religious services, but such services must be done without the use of speakers and musical instruments.
“All road shows, street hawkings and vehicular hawkings with sound systems are hereby suspended till 2 October, 2016”, the town crier echoed.
Youths in the town were also warned not to take advantage of the rites to invade markets and burgle shops and wares. The town crier said anybody found culpable shall be treated as a thief.
