Rio Olympics 2016: Controversy trails wrong Nigerian Anthem

Nigeria

Nigeria’s team celebrates one of their goals

It was a disappointing moment when the wrong national anthem was played for the Nigerian Olympic football (Dream Team) team during their match against Japan on Thursday night.

Nigerians have not taken this likely as they have lambasted the organizing committee of the 2016 Olympics, which is currently taking place in Rio, Brazil for playing the wrong National Anthem for the country.

The video also clearly showed the disappointment expressed by the Nigerian players when the wrong anthem was played for them.

The organizers eventually apologized for their mistake and it was good that the Dream Team weren’t deterred as Nigeria ended up beating Japan 5-4.

Also, Oghenekaro Etebo has become the first Nigerian to score a hat-trick at the Olympics.

Some Nigerians, however, believe that the error might not be unconnected with the late arrival of the players to the city before the match.
