It’s important to understand how badly things could have gone. According to SmartGunLaw.org, accidental firearm injuries killed 606 people in 2010. And 1,300 victims of unintentional shootings between 2005 and 2010 were under the age of 25.
People like to go all out to get the perfect Snapchat — but one woman in Florida is probably regretting her extreme(ly dangerous) posing decisions right about now.
Regina Powell, 22, accidentally shot her phone while she was posing with her uncle’s gun Sunday, the Palm Beach Post reports. While this mistake could have turned tragic, Regina only sustained injuries to her hand due to the shattered glass from her broken phone. Her aunt drove her to the hospital — tossing the gun out of the car on their way. (It still hasn’t been recovered.)
In addition, Time reports that there have been at least 49 selfie-related deaths since 2014. Russian soldiers were killed while taking a selfie with what they didn’t realize was a live grenade. (It exploded, killing them both.) And a man in Washington state accidentally shot himself in the face while posing for a selfie.
So put the weapons down. Potentially dying is definitely not worth the Snapchat.
