Technician in court over missing laptop

The Police on Friday arraigned a technician, Stephen John, in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over a missing laptop brought to him for repairs.

John, 32, who has a workshop at Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, was alleged to have collected a laptop from one Musa Talba for repairs but failed to do the job.

The prosecutor, Christopher Joseph, told the court that Talba, of Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on July 14.

He added that John was facing a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Joseph said that in May, the complainant gave his Dell laptop to the defendant for repairs and made a payment of N10, 000.

The prosecutor added that the defendant did not only fail to carry out the repairs on time as agreed, but also misplaced the laptop.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to commence trial.

The Senior Magistrate, Nuhu Tukur, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Tukur also ordered that the surety must have fixed address within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter till Aug. 3 for hearing.
