Some senators attempt to change the Constitution for the benefit of Saraki – Marafa

– Senator Marafa urges Nigerians to be vigilant regarding some pro-Saraki senators’ attempt to amend the Constitution

– The politician characterized such moves as illegal

– He laments that the proposed bills are even being considered.

Kabir Garba Marafa of the Zamfara Central senatorial zone insists Nigerians should be resolved against the attempts by some senators to change the country Constitution to save Red Chamber president Bukola Saraki from the corruption trial.

Senator Marafa made his position known in an interview with Sahara Reporters adding:

“You can also recall my call on the leadership of the Senate to respect the ranking rules. The chickens are now coming home to roost.”

He characterized the last week’s attempt aimed at amending the laws establishing the Code of Conduct Tribunal was moved by personal interests of the few.

He further explained that the bill that was passed for the second reading yesterday meant to redraft the Constitution for the benefit of Saraki; the second bill sought to ignore some sections of the constitution; finally the third one was to enlarge the immunity clause.

“All the three proposed bills fall under constitutional amendment and not an act of the National Assembly.”

The official therefore considers the ongoing pro-Saraki moves illegal and “dead on arrival” and lamented that issues like this “can even be listed and given an accelerated hearing in the hallowed chamber presided over by a senior lawyer.”
