Lagos Metro Pro League Season 2 kicks off Thursday

The much-awaited Metro Pro League Lagos 2015/2016 season kicks off on Thursday as Nath Boys Football Club battle debutant Pepsi Football Academy at the Agege Stadium.


This season opening tie is slated for 4pm.


Victor Akinyooye, Metro Pro League CEO disclosed that six clubs have been registered to participate this season and they would play 15 rounds of matches each, with each team playing every other team three times.







“We adopted this format due to the reduced number of teams for the upcoming season and for us to finish in time to commence preparations for the 2016/2017 league season later this year.


“This is not a new thing as this format is also being used in the Australian Professional League (A-League),” he stated.


The registered clubs, according to him, are 36 Lion Football Club, Bridge Football Club, Nath Boys Football Club, Remo Stars Football Club, Pepsi Football Academy and the Saints Football Club.


Akinyooye added that the famous Agege Stadium and Children International School, Lekki are venues of the league matches.


Meanwhile, League management has taken delivery of branded balls for matches this season.


The sum of N4.5 million was set aside as prize money for the eventual winners of the 2014 Metro Pro League, the year league made its debut.


The winners won N2 million, the second placed team got N1.5 million while third placed team took home the sum of N1 million,
