Folusho Adebanjo, The Commissioner of Police in charge of Saturday’s council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has commended the peaceful take-off of the exercise, saying it was satisfactory.
Adebanjo told NAN at Polling Units 15 and 16, Area 8, while monitoring the exercise that policemen were stationed early in all polling stations to ensure security of materials, officials and the electorate.
He expressed delight with the conduct of voters and urged those who were afraid to come out “ to come and vote for candidates of their choice’’.
“I have moved round some of the polling units and I can tell you that there is no problem, as accreditation and voting are going smoothly.
“I am encouraging FCT residents to come out and vote as their safety is guaranteed. We are in charge and everything is going on smoothly,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the election recorded early arrival of electoral officials and materials in most polling stations in the six area councils in the territory.
The low turnout of voters, which was recorded in most parts of the territory when the exercise commenced has improved.
Polling units in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada and Abaji had long queues of voters waiting for accreditation and voting.
