Operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, at Milverton Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria have arrested the Managing Director of Cee Uba Investment Nigeria Limited, Chief Emmanuel Uba, 53, for allegedly stealing a 40ft container valued at N40m being property of Ugochukwu Asiegbu.

After investigation by Sgt Sunmola and his team, the suspect was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Barr Sylvester Azubuike informed the court in charge No C/20/2016 that the accused, who claimed to be a clearing agent and the Managing Director of Cee Uba Investment Nigeria Limited committed the offence on 17 March 2009 and 13 May 2010 in Lagos.

Azubuike told the court that the accused collected the sum of N3,233,650 from the complainant, Ugochukwu Asiegbu, with the pretence to use it to clear a 40ft container valued at N40m for him but instead the accused converted the money and the container of goods loaded with dry batteries, bulbs, helmets, kitchen knives and wine openers to his personal use.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police when all his efforts to retrieve the money and the container from the accused proved futile.

Azubuike said the offences the accused committed are punishable under sections 312(1)(3) and 285 of the criminal Laws of lagos state, 2011.

The accused however denied the allegations in an open court when the charges were read to him.

Chief Magistrate Mrs A.O Komolafe admitted him to bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum.

Komolafe adjourned the case till 27 April, 2016 for mention while the defendant was moved to Ikoyi prison in Lagos pending when he will fulfil his bail conditions.
