The officials of the Directorate of Petroleum Resources, DPR, on Wednesday swooped on many filling stations in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state as four filling stations were sealed off.
Our correspondent gathered that the officials stormed the town following a tip off by some residents who have been complaining of hardship meted out to them by marketers.
The affected filling stations are; Yoboro along Oke Owa road, Ire Akari along Olisa Street, Debash (Awokoya Street) and Hasmor located along Ondo road, all in Ijebu Ode.
Findings revealed that most filling stations in Ijebu Ode are selling between N180 – N200.
Only two filling stations were said to have been selling at the official price of N86.50, but the crowd at those stations are unprecedented. They are NIMCO located at Bonojo junction and Debash filling stations.
Those that were sealed off were alleged to have been trying to hoard the product.
At Hasmor and Yoboro, our correspondent reliably gathered that a motorists contacted the DPR officials and reported that the station had fuel but refused to sell it.
The officials then stormed the station and upon confirming the report, ordered that the machines be operated and sold to the people for free for about 35 minutes before they later stopped and sealed it off.
On that of Debash, some unknown persons were said to have reported the fuel station to DPR. Debash have been praised by motorists for selling at the official price but on this occasion were hoarding the product.
When the officials got to the station and decided to seal it off, drama ensued as some motorists started shouting on the officials, condemning their action.
The shouting did not stop the officials from sealing the station but after some begging, they were forced to re-open the station.
The other four stations were also re-opened later in the day after resolving with the officials of the DPR.
Findings round the town this morning shows that none of the filling stations has the product as motorists have to moved to Ikoto and Ejirin road expressway areas.
The product as at this morning is being sold for N200 at both filling stations at the expressway areas.
