A women group, the Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa on Saturday, April 16, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be weary of foreigners in his fight against Boko Haram terrorists.

While speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the group’s executive vice president, Jummai Pukat said only Nigeria and Nigerians deserve commendation on the victory over the activities of terrorists in the northeast.

Pukat said it is important for the president and Nigerians to be vigilant of some foreigners who she said are taking advantage of the media to snatch the glory of sacrifices made by the Nigerian military and the political will of President Buhari.

Describing the abduction of over 200 girls from their hostel in Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno state as inhuman, Pukat said the present administration should leave no stone unturned in bringing terrorism to an end in Nigeria.

“Boko Haram commander one after the other gets apprehended even as the terrorists’ foot soldiers are surrendering to our troops. Displaced persons are returning home to rebuild towns and villages that Boko Haram once occupied. The success story is one that everyone is angling to be part of,” Pukat said.

Also commending the Nigerian armed force, she said the military chiefs have put the insurgents in their rightful place.

Pukat said funds slated for the fight against insurgency are now being used for the right purposes rather being diverted for personal use.

Analyzing the recent ‘proof of life video’ of the Chibok girls by CNN, Pukat said that Americans are focused on taking the glory of the victory sustained by the Nigerian military.

“We even saw on CNN that a retired American general was backing the work of the Nigerian Army against Boko Haram. He said Nigerian Army is winning but quickly added that they (the US) have been supporting Nigeria,” she said.

Expressing the group’s dissatisfaction, she further warned the United States of America to desist from claiming responsibility for the feat performed by Nigerian soldiers referring to similar cases in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan among many others.

“We believe we have every right to be alarmed that Western interests are again on the verge of editing the history of the war against Boko Haram terrorism in way that will suggest that they cleaned up Nigeria’s mess.

“We appreciate all humanitarian aid and support so far but it is important to note that the war on terrorism was won by the Nigerian Armed Forces and credit must be given strictly to the President Buhari led administration, the service chiefs he meticulously appointed, officers and men of the Armed Forces who put their lives at risk every day.

“We cannot forget many countries that not only sat down on the side-lines until this moment but also did all they could to discourage others from coming to Nigeria’s aid when it matters most,” she said.

The group also condemned activities of rebels against soldiers and civilians, calling on Nigerians not to allow anyone or nation diminish Nigeria.

Last week, CNN released ‘a proof of life’ video of some of the missing Chibok girls, the girls were abducted two years ago in the hostel by the Boko Haram terrorists.

The new video showed 15 of out of the over 200 missing girls.

Also, mothers of the girls and some of their classmates were able to identify the girls in the new video that was said to be released in December as part of the negotiation between the Nigerian government and the Boko Haram group.
