Police launch health care scheme for officers in Lagos

In line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arese, the police have launched a health care scheme for officers in Lagos State western Nigeria.


The scheme was launched on Thursday by the Assistant Inspector General, AIG, of Police AIG, Zone 2 , Mr Bala Hassan at the police college in Ikeja.


The event which was tagged, Launching of Urine Drug Test and Mass screening for Hypertension and Diabetes attracted the presence top senior police officers and rank and file from various command in the state.


While flagging off the scheme, Hassan pointed out the statuary duties of the police which included protection of life and property, preservation of law and order and prevention and detection of crime and apprehension of offenders among others.







He noted that police duties are tedious and as such, officers need to be fit, safe and healthy to perform those functions, thus the vision of the IGP to provide adequate security in the area of health of officers and placed by providing health scheme for officers.


He also said the urine for alcohol and drug tests was aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property of Nigerians from accidental discharges by officers who carry firearms.


He clarified that the test will conducted regularly and those who tested positive to alcohol would not allowed to carry firearms any longer.


He said the programme was launched at the Force headquarters by the IGP and it was expected that officers in Lagos State command will use the opportunity offered to them to live a healthy life style and stay safe.


He advised officers to do their annual medical check-up in order to avoid undue illness or sudden death.


Before the event came to the end, many senior officers from medical departments and police college in Zone 2 command spoke favourably on the scheme and enjoined officers to embrace the scheme.


Also the CP medical, Dr (Mrs) M. Obembe lectured the officers present on health tips to be healthy and safe.
