What happens when two monkeys are paid unequally?

Within the last several years scientist have been running one and the same experiment on various kinds of animals and primates – dogs, birds, chimpanzees. The experiment studies the sense of fairness.

This time, the chief participants of the research are represented by two Capuchin monkeys sitting in neighboring cages. The essence of the experiment is that for a simple job – taking a rock and giving it back – the Capuchins got a reward. First the rewards given to the both partners are bits of cucumbers. But later the cucumbers for one of the monkeys will be replaced with grapes. While the “payment” is equal for both of them, the situation remains stable and quiet. As soon as the “salary” changes, something changes about the behavior of one of the Capuchins.

Do you think the sense of justice, equality and indignation is intrinsic only to humans? Well, to find out the answer you have to watch this funny movie and see it with your own eyes.

Did you smile when watched this video? Isn’t the monkeys’ behavior reasonable? Please, share this great example of scientific work with your friends.
