– Tompolo faults APC leaders in the Niger Delta for instigating President Buhari against him
– Accuses the APC leaders of seeking to use his travails to curry favour from the presidency
– Berates them for failing to focus many topical issues in Nigeria today that are worthy of discussion
The embattled ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, who is currently on the run from operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the Niger Delta as the architects of his travails at the hand of the antigraft agency.
According to Vanguard, Tompolo, in a statement through his Media Adviser, Paul Bebenimibo, was reacting to a statement credited to former labour leader and APC chieftain, Chief Frank Kokori, in which the latter cautioned Tompolo to come out to face the EFCC.
He accused the APC leaders instigating Buhari and security agencies with unfounded information that Tompolo is preparing to fight the Federal Government by destroying pipelines and other oil facilities in the Niger Delta region.
He said the APC leader in question where “are the ones planning to carry out such acts in order to portray themselves as patriotic party members to get appointments and contracts from the government and its agencies. This is a disturbing development in Nigerian politics today”.
Most of these so called party faithful are not even happy with the performance of the President Buhari administration, particularly the appointment of party members to political positions, but they rather chose the issue of ‘Tompolo and EFCC’ to show faithfulness in the administration to get favour from the President.
He said that the APC leaders instead of focusing on the many topical issues in Nigeria today that are worthy of discussion were using someone’s predicament to get favour which he described as evil and wicked.
The EFCC had charged Tompolo and a former director general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, alongside eight others with a N45.9bn fraud.
Following his failure to appear in court, Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court had ordered the arrest of the former militant leader for his failure to appear before him to answer 40 counts on an alleged N45.9bn fraud but all efforts by the nation’s security agencies to produce the former militant leader has been unsuccessful.
