The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to accuse each other of distributing fake military uniforms to different parts of Rivers state.

On Friday, March 18, the Rivers state government urged security agencies to address disturbing news that the APC has sent out hundreds of its thugs in fake military uniforms to different parts of the state to rig the upcoming rerun election.

Members of the PDP in the state claimed that APC thugs have been sighted in Novotel hotel, which is used by the party as its command and control center for the election scheduled for Saturday, March 19.

According to the PDP-led government, Rotimi Amaechi, the minister for transportation and the ex-governor of the state, is directly responsible for the distribution of N50,000 and uniforms to each of the thugs.

The Nation reports that Azubiuke Wanjoku, APC chieftain in Ikwerre local government area and a strong supporter of Amaechi, said that the allegation of the state government is a mere defense of what Nyesom Wike and the PDP are doing.

He expressed assurance that the people of the state would not listen to the governor and his party. He also added that the killing of APC supporters in Rivers would not deterred the people of the state not to vote for APC candidates.

Wanjoku further alleged that the PDP is recruiting jobless youths, giving them N50, 000 each, AK47 and military camouflage to shoot during the re-run election.

“As I am talking to you now we have uncovered plan by chieftains of People Democratic Party in the state to recruit jobless youths for tomorrow re-run election. One of the youths who I discouraged not to accept the N50,000 cash offer told me that their job that day is to shoot and scare voters away.

“We have confidence in the INEC and we believe that the new state INEC boss will do the right thing and ensure that what happened in the general election where result sheets were taken, result allocated to political parties and smuggled back to INEC office did not repeat itself again,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government also accused the APC of being behind the killing of two soldiers on patrol in Abonema, Degema local government area of state.

Austin Tam-George, the state’s commissioner for information, alleged that cultists backed by the APC committed the murders.
