In an attempt to tackle the problem of piracy in the country, security operatives have nabbed two serial pirates in Lagos state, Leadership reports.

The suspects, believed to be masterminds of video piracy in Lagos, were tracked and arrested in their houses on Thursday night, March 10.

It was the gathered that the arrest of the pirates, John Abba and Ogbonna Nwite, was made possible through the efforts of film makers and distributors, Chief Gabriel Okoye aka Gabosky and Norbert Ajaegbu.

The duo have been handed over to law enforcement agents as they are said to have the biggest warehouses in Alaba International Market for their illegal business.

Abba and Nwite arrest comes barely a serial pirate, Eze Obasi was picked up by men of Ojo police station in Lagos, after a tip off by him.

Obasi was seen with copies of Invasion 1897, all fake and pirated. He was transferred to the office of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) for interrogation after which he was sent to Ikoyi prisons.

Recently, Chief Femi Odunuga, the CEO Gemini Films and Marketing, a movie marketing firm told Naij.com that piracy is the major problem in the entertainment industry.

He said: “About four years back, when we release our movies the pirates will give us two weeks to sell our movies before pirating it but now they are competing with us. The same day we release movie they release theirs. If we release our movies by 10 am by 6 pm they have it duplicated thus affecting our own sales.”
