– Many Nigerian politicians have refused to draw a line between politics and reality
– Any gathering is used to further their interest just to gain prominence
– The funeral of the late minister of state for labour and productivity, James Ocholi was not spared by desperate politicians
While many gathered to pay their last respect to the departed late Ocholi, his wife; Blessing and his son, Joshua, others saw it as an avenue as an occasion to further their political interest.
Supporters of the former governor of Kogi state, Captain Idris Wada thronged the Abocho primary school in Dekina local government area of Kogi state, where the solemn ceremony was taking place, to display their rascality and insensitivity at the event.

Many of Wada’s admirers and associates trooped to his seat to exchange pleasantries with him at the event
Giving security agencies a hell of time curtailing their activities, the supporters did not seem to care that a funeral was ongoing, as all they were interested in was chanting the name of their benefactor.

Security agencies had a hard time controlling the crowd
Captain Wada himself seemed to be enjoying the attention he was getting as so many of his supporters trooped to where he was sitting to exchange pleasantries with him.

When the minister of labour and productivity, Senator Chris Ngige was giving the vote of thanks and recognising personalities, the moment he called out Captain Wada’s name, there was a frenzy among his unruly supporters as they started jumping up and chanting his name, in utter disregard of the ceremony.
A community leader in Abocho, Isa Jibrin who spoke to NAIJ.com on the issue said: ”Politicians will always be politicians. They use every opportunity to sell themselves even though most of them have nothing to offer our people.
He continued: ”It is distasteful for supporters of the former governor to come here distracting people at this event with their noise-making. Especially at a sad occasion like this where we are mourning our son. It is unfair!”
A Kogi state based journalist who also spoke on the issue on the condition of anonymity, said: ”This has been a recurring issue. Captain (Wada) needs to call his supporters to order. It is not necessary they follow him everywhere he goes to.
”He should make efforts to curtail their activities before they will gove him a bad name. Imagine them chanting his name in such an occasion. It could have been a disaster if Yahaya Bello (Kogi state governor) brought his own supporters here too because there would have been a clash. These things are unnecessary,’‘ he retorted angrily.
