The Agege stadium in Lagos was full of chants by members of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) with heavy choruses of ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ as their team defeated El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3 – 1 on Sunday March 13.

The very entertaining Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) round 6 fixture between both sides saw massive crowd at the stadium right behind the secretariat in Agege.

Stephen Odey opened the score-sheet in the 27th minute with an easy tap-in to give his side the all-important lead as both sides went into the break 1 – 0.


The ‘Olukoya Boys’ returned from the dressing room with rage and just two minutes into the second half, Julius Emiloju was on hand with a cool finish which sent the fans into a rapturous mood making it 2 – 0 in favour of the home-side.

However, Japhet Daniel got one back for his side after much effort by the visitors who also looked dangerous to get the equalizer.


Then, the prayer warriors and choristers from the MFM began to sing and pray as some of the choruses which includes ‘send down fire, the Holy Ghost fire’ rented the air.


The massive support continued and in the 76th minute, Emmanuel Onuwa restored the two-goal cushion for his side from a counter-attack and that ensured the game ended 3 – 1 in favour of MFM FC.

In an exclusive chat with Naij.com Sports, Evangelist Dotun Johnson of the international evangelism group disclosed that the leadership of the MFM sent some of the prayer warriors on the mission to support the team with prayers.


“As you can see, we have prayer warriors here,” he started. “We have been directed from the headquarters as members of the evangelism team to support our club. We are so excited.


“There is God in football. The Bible says the earth is of the Lord and its fullness there of; including the footballers as well as the spectators. We are winners and we are for Jesus.”

The Christian leader also disclosed that it was an opportunity to preach the gospel.


“We are also using this medium to reach out to unbelievers to embrace Jesus,” he concluded.


The win shoots the Lagos based MFM FC to the top of the log with 13 points from 6 games. Enugu Rangers as well as Kano Pillars are both on 11 points occupying second and third positions respectively.
