Leadership of the Labour Unions in Ogun state, western Nigeria, has called off the strike action in the state.

The civil servants in Ogun state have been on industrial action since last week Monday, 7 March, 2016.

Speaking with PMNEWS Wednesday night over the new development, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Committee, Comrade Abiodun Olakanmi confirmed the suspension, saying they aceded to call from respected personalities in the state.

The JNC boss, however, directed that all workers should resume at their work post Thursday, 17 March, 2016.

According to him, “truly, we have suspended the strike action for just two weeks to see if the governor will do the needful.

“We agreed to suspend the strike today after our meeting with the royal fathers, who were called to mediate in the matter. As a young fellow who also wants to become an elderly person, one must respect elders, especially, royal fathers.

“Also, we consider the good role played by Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi-led Ogun state House of Assembly. Their mediation has been so marvelous and if we don’t want to become irrelevant, we just have to concede to their plea to allow the state government to do what is expected of them to do.

“Our royal fathers, Awujale and Alake, have spoken with us. While we were at that meeting, the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle called us and invite us to Ilaro tomorrow. So, by the grace of God, we will be at Ilaro tomorrow to meet our father.

” So, I want to confirm to you that we have suspended the strike for just two weeks.”

While corroborating the position of the JNC Chairman, the Ogun state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Akeem Ambali, said the suspension was as a result of recent intervention by the lawmakers and the royal fathers.

He further revealed that the former Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Abolurin, the present Head of Service, HoS in the State, Elder Sola Adeyemi and other respectable Ogun leaders have appealed to them to allow 14 days suspension of the strike action to enable them mediate and resolve the protracted dispute.

“As a mark of honour and respect for these eminent personalities, the strike has been suspended immediately and all workers are therefore requested to resume duties promptly.

“We shall forever remain grateful for your prayers, support, encouragement for remaining resolute to achieve total victory for us all,” he said.
