Oby Ezekwesili, the former minister of education and leader of the Bring Back Our Girls group, has expressed her disappointment over the Senate’s rejection of the gender and equal opportunity bill.
In a series of tweets posted on Tuesday, March 15, Ezerwesili noted that “there are quite a number of noxious provisions in the 1999 Constitution that will not stand up to participatory democratic scrutiny.”

Meanwhile, Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, explained that the gender and equal opportunity bill had some grey areas which made many of the senators reject it. However, he noted that the bill would be re-presented at the Senate by Senator Biodun Olujimi who introduced it.
