Goodnews: Ogun workers suspend strike

– Workers in Ogun state have suspended their strike action


– The industrial action lasted for about a week


– Monarchs and royal fathers have promised to mediate in the issue between the workers and the government


– The strikes has been suspend for two weeks, pending government response


The over one week industrial action embarked upon by the workers in Ogun state, southwestern,Nigeria has been suspended.


Public servants in Ogun state have been on industrial action since last week Monday March 7,2016.


Confirming this to our correspondent on phone this evening,Chairman of the state Joint Negotiation Committee (JNC) Comrade Abiodun Olakanmi disclosed that they had to heed to calls from respected personalities in the state.

The JNC boss however directed all workers should resume at their work post tomorrow,Thursday March 17, 2016.


He said:“Truly,we have suspended the strike action for just two weeks to see if the governor will do the needful. 


“We agreed to suspend the strike today after our meeting with the royal fathers, who ha e called to mediate in the matter. As a young fellows who also want to become an elderly person, one must respect elders,especially, royal fathers.


“Also,we consider the good role played by Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi led Ogun state House of Assembly. Their mediations have been so marvelous and if one don’t want to become irrelevant, we just have to concede to their plea to allow the state government to do what is expected of them to do.


“Our royal fathers,Awujale and Alake have spoke with us. While we were at that meeting,the Olu of Ilaro,Oba Kehinde Olugbenle called us and invite us to Ilaro tomorrow, so,by the grace of God,we will be at Ilaro tomorrow to meet our father.


“So,I want to confirm to you that we have suspend the strike for just two weeks,” Olakanmi stated.


While corroborating the position of the JNC Chairman, the Ogun state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Akeem Ambali disclosed that the suspension was as a result of recent intervention by the lawmakers and the royal fathers.


He further revealed that the former Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr Abolurin, the present Head-of-Service in the state, Elder Sola Adeyemi and other respectable Ogun leaders have appealed to them to grant 14days suspension of the strike action to enable them mediate and resolve the protracted dispute.


He therefore stated that “as a mark of honour and respect for these eminent personalities, the strike has been suspended immediately and all workers are therefore requested to resume back to duties promptly.


“We shall forever remain grateful for your prayers, supports, encouragements for remaining resolute to achieve total victory for us all,” he said.
