FG warns contractors, reveals what President Buhari forbids

– The Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, says government will no longer tolerate abandonment of project by contractors after collecting money


– Mohammed was on an assessment tour of the Kaduna scrap metal recovery and recycling plant

Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, says government will no longer tolerate the abandonment of projects by contractors.



The Federal Government has issued stern warning to contractors handling its numerous projects across the country.

Vanguard reports that the Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed, conveyed the federal government stance during an inspection tour of the Kaduna scrap metal recovery and recycling plant.


Mohammed in a statement issued on March 17 by the assistant director, press, federal ministry of environment, Mr Atuora Obed, said government will no longer tolerate abandonment of project by contractors after collecting money for the projects.


The minister, who condemned the actions of some contractors, revealed that the Buhari-led government would not accept such from any contractor.


“It is criminal for any contractor to receive payment up to the tune of N600million from the government to execute a project only for the government to discover that there is practically nothing done on the site.


“The Buhari-led administration would not accept such from any contractor irrespective of how highly placed they are. The government has zero tolerance for such retrogressive acts,’’ she said‎.


Mohammed lamented the disgraceful condition of the plant, pointing out that it is obnoxious for government to spend scarce resources on projects and at the end of the day, no substantial work is done on it.


She revealed that the abandonment of the recycling plant contradicted government’s desire of converting waste to wealth. Mohammed promised that the plant would be refurbished for optimal performance.

The ministry of Finance on March 16 disclosed that the Buhari led federal government has also taken another bold step to alleviate excess spending on travels. It was as reported that about N4billion will be saved on annual cost of travel following negotiations with local and international airlines to secure discounts for travel by government officials.
