David Mark sends strong message to Nigerians

– David Mark urged Nigerians to fight insecurity


– The Senator said that senseless killings must not be allowed to thrive in the country


– He noted sadly that productive citizens have lost their lives to insurgency


Senator David Mark has sent a strong message to Nigerians urging them to rise up against the growing insecurity in the country.


The Nation reports that the former Senate president noted that although insecurity was not peculiar to Nigeria alone, the country must stop the needless killings and not allow the phenomenon cripple the nation.

In a statement released by Paul Mumeh who is the media assistant to Mark, the Senator said this in Ogume, Delta State after he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree on Intelligence and Security studies from Novena University at the institution’s convocation ceremony.


A faculty named Senator David Mark centre for Intelligence and Security studies was also established by the university to study issues related to conflicts and insecurity.


Mark said: “it is sad that hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost to conflicts and insurgency.”


He regretted that “productive men and women who should ordinarily contribute to national development have been needlessly wasted. Hence we must all rise up to say enough is enough “.


Mark reportedly expressed pleasure with the establishment of the Intelligence and Security studies faculty named after him and requested that priority be placed on strategic research that will provide better understanding and knowledge of the security challenges facing the nation today.

Prof. Chris A. Okafor who is the vice chancellor of the institution presented the certificate to Mark. He applauded the role Senator Mark played as the President of 6th and 7th Senate in bringing peace, stability and security to the national polity.


He said “the David Mark Centre for Intelligence and National Security studies will work closely with the Distinguished Senator and some international partners from the Republic of China to fully train the undergraduates in personal and national security.”
