A 35-year-old man, Mustapha Rasak, has been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for allegedly issuing N4m dud cheque in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri for obtaining and stealing under the criminal code.
Rasak allegedly obtained agro products worth N4m from Balogun Jamiu under the false pretence of selling the products and remitting the money to him.
The incident happened at NNPC road in Ejigbo where the complainant’s office is located.
However, after Rasak got the products, he sold them and fled with the money.
After waiting for him for several months to no avail, Jamiu went to the police at Ejigbo division and reported the matter.
The police trailed Rasak and eventually arrested him at his hideout.
He was taken to the station where he promised to pay the money.
Rasak issued a cheque of N4m and was granted administrative bail.
When Jamiu took the cheque to the bank, it was dishonoured due to insufficient fund in the account.
He was charged to court with obtaining under false pretence, stealing and issuing of dud cheque under the Criminal code.
He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 18 April, 2016.
