Two years after their traditional marriage, Nollywood actress and activist Foluke Daramola and her husband, Kayode Salako, on the eve of Valentine’s Day, formalised their union by signing the dotted lines at the Lagos Court Registry.
The wedding on Saturday, which had in attendance, select few friends and family of the couple as witnesses, was held at the Kosofe Registry, Ogudu, Lagos.
Speaking on the need to legalise their union, Foluke disclosed that Salako and herself had to be at the registry to renew their love and live together as a lawfully wedded couple.
“The reason we decided to go to the marriage registry is because it aligns with the Valentine’s Day’s season and mood. Love is in the air and this is the perfect time to renew our love. We did our traditional wedding on February 15, 2014 on the same day as my birthday. An atmosphere of love is around and we feel it is the perfect time to go to the registry and document our marriage properly,” she said.
Similarly, the husband, Salako in an interview with E24-7Magazine said the formalisation of their marriage is most deserving to Foluke and he’s doing it for these reasons:
“One, she has proven to me beyond any reasonable doubt that she is the woman I’m destined to marry. Two, to confirm that I will never marry another woman again. Thirdly, that we will live under the same roof for the rest of our lives as husband and wife.”
Salako added: “Foluke is not only intelligent but caring. I make bold to say that though she is not perfect, she is intelligent, caring and respectful. I must confess that it is not easy to live with her, she is tough, troublesome. She gives me trouble but I told her that if she can keep her peace for three months without giving me any trouble, I will surprise her. She has kept faith, in fact, she’s peaceful like a river now. She has grown to love peace in her home and it is just honourable on my part to fulfill that promise to formally legalise our relationship.”
The couple had previously been married to different partners and divorced. Foluke once had a troubled marriage with Babatunde Sobowale, son of former Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Sobowale.
They both got married in 2005, and the union ended in 2008 amidst allegations of infidelity and battery. They both had two kids from the marriage.
On Kayode’s part, for 13 years, he was also married to the mother of his three kids, Bukola.
According to him, he parted ways on health grounds with Bukola, who now lives abroad with their three children.
