Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State
Governor Ibikunle Amosun has declared that Ogun State has the largest number of borders, mostly illegal routes across the state.
Amosun said all the illegal borders in some parts of Ogun West Senatorial District have been causing a huge challenge to the state in the area of security.
The governor stated this Sunday night during his interactive session with the people of Ogun State on both OGTV and OGBC,the state owned media outfits.
He noted that no investors will come to where he will not be safe.
The governor reminded the people that lack of security and access to good roads hinder investors from coming to invest.
He stated that the government is trying to recreate the areas so as to create an enabling environment for would-be investors to come, which in turn, would assist in creating job opportunities either directly or indirectly for the teeming youths across the state.
According to him, “what many people don’t know is that Ogun state is having the largest number of borders in this country. Ogun is having over 100 illegal borders.
“I didn’t want to be saying this again, but I will just say when we came on board, many companies could not operate till late. Back then the latest time they closed was around 4pm, but now they are working on shift basis because the security condition has improved.
“All the investors are willing to come to Ogun. We have about seven industrial hubs now in the state. We have the best Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) in this country today. The state can boast of 14 functioning APCs. The APCs can move 200km per hour. We got all these from California, USA.
“Before we came, the state had about 20 Hilux trucks and out of the 20, about 17 were working but now we have over 300 Hilux trucks. All security agencies in the state include the Police, NSCDC, DSS, Vigilante Service and we thank God, security has improved in the state.”
The Governor further stated: “When we came in in 2011, Ogun state was the 35th among the 36 states but now, we are between first to third position in national examinations. The record is there for everybody to see.
“The illegal borders are in Ipokia, Imeko Afon, Yewa North and now many are springing up in Ado-Odo/Ota axis of the state. They are giving us huge challenges,” the governor revealed.
Governor Amosun assured the people of the state that the government will optimize the resources that abound to jack up the internally generated revenue, IGR, of the state.
He urged them to play their own part as the government is keen on doing its part, adding that all must prepare for the forthcoming 40th anniversary celebration of the state in February.
