The actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was in Zambia on Friday, November 27 for a summit on eradicating child marriage.

The gathering had notable guests in attendance such as Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu, the first lady Esther Lungu as well as South Africa’s first lady Tobeka Zuma.
Roman Tesfaye, Ethiopian’s first lady, was also present at the event which highlighted the problems associated with child marriage and ways of eliminating it.
Other dignitaries present at the first ever summit on child marriage included representatives from UNFPA, UNICEF, the Netherlands, the Canadian government and the Ford Foundation among others.
The First African Girls’ Summit was held at the New Government Complex Conference Centre, Lusaka from November 26 to November 27, 2015.
According to Al Jazeera, President Edgar Lungu of Zambia emphasized plans to end child marriage.
Lungu explained that he wants “to make sure my government has developed a strategy to end child marriage which will be launched soon. It’s aimed at ending the vice. I’m not interested in curbing the vice but in eliminating it”.

He spoke further saying: “It’s a violation of children’s rights, perpetuated by people who don’t understand the importance of protecting children’s rights”.
