No ceremony Was Done To Mark The Launching Of Suggestion Boxes- Senate

Following the recent launch of the suggestion boxes at the senate, the media office of the Senate President on Thursday, November 26 2015 clarified that no ceremony was done to that effect.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Bamikole Omisore, the Special Assistant on new media to the Senate President.

The statement read in part: “The attention of the media office of the Senate President has been drawn to comments regarding the launch of the “Speak to SP Suggestion Boxes” at various points of the National Assembly.

“It would be important to state that there was no ceremony to mark the launching of the suggestion boxes.

“The Senate President, Bukola Saraki was only accompanied by some of his colleagues for a symbolic ribbon-cutting meant to mark the introduction of the boxes at the National Assembly complex.

“We hope that the staff and visitors to the National Assembly will take advantage of these suggestion boxes, as it will strengthen effective communication between the leadership of the National Assembly and the staff that serve as the engine behind all its activities.”

Although he said the speech released to the press was the statement Saraki was meant to have delivered at the launch, the ribbon-cutting lasted less than five minutes.

The suggestion boxes however are a physical component of the online approach being adopted by the Senate to receive feedback from Nigerians and also to promote the two-way interaction between Nigerians and their representatives in the 8th senate.

It was also launched in order to allow staff and visitors to the National Assembly to submit internal recommendations on improvements that can be made at the National Assembly.

Earlier this month, the Senate President sent a message to Nigerians seeking their participation in the formulation of the legislative agenda of the 8th Senate.

“Many of the credible and practicable recommendations that were submitted online were taken into account, and the Senate adopted them in drafting its legislative agenda.,” he added.

The suggestion box was launched on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 for Nigerians to engage more robustly in the affairs of the senate as the lawmakers deliver laws.

Naij.com recalls that when Saraki assumed office, he pledged to declare transparency by starting an #OpenNass campaign whereby a transparent and credible legislature is practiced.
