Kogi Polls: READ What Buhari Has To Say About His Preferred Candidate

President Muhammadu Buhari has denied allegations that did not support the candidacy of Prince Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kogi state.

President Buhari dissociated his office from an advertorial published by a faction of the APC in the state alleging that Audu was not Buhari’s preferred candidate in the primary election, The Nation reports.

In a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Buhari noted that Audu emerged as flagbearer through a democratic process endorsed by the party leadership.

President Muhammadu Buhari harbours nothing but good wishes for Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC governorship candidate in Kogi State.

“As a democrat himself, the President has nothing but respect for the outcome of the Kogi primaries.

“The President is aware of ex-Governor Audu’s outstanding role in the processes leading to his emergence as the APC presidential candidate, followed by his emergence as the elected president of the country,” the statement read.

Buhari called on the APC leaders in Kogi state to focus more on how to gro0w and develop the party rather than petty differences.

He added that they needed to rally round Audu to the ‘Change’ process which began with APC’s victory in the National Assembly elections in the state, saying, “Kogi should not be missing from the Change sweeping across the country.”

The president, who was unable to attend the launch of the campaign and flag presentation to the Kogi state APC governorship candidate at the weekend, will lead 22 governors of the APC to the final rally Audu.

The campaign launch was attended by the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, NEC members, Senator Shuiabu Lawal, Hajia Ramatu Aliyu Tijana and the governors of Imo, Benue and Nasarawa states.

Others were the former governor of Kano state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the deputy governors of Adamawa, Kwara and Niger.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the APC and the Southwest APC governors, who were billed to fly into the state for the event, could not make it, following the death of Mai Borgu, Haliru Dantoro, who died last Friday in Germany.

The Kogi gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on November 21 but there fears that it might be postponed due to the absence of national commissioners which might  force the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter its earlier election timetable.

Ahead of the election, 22 candidates from various parties and their running mates have been named as contestants in the election by the INEC.
