Kogi, Bayelsa: 42 Candidates Cleared For Governorship Polls

Ahead of the Kogi and Bayelsa states governorship elections slated for November 21 and December 5 respectively, forty-two candidates have been cleared and approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governorship Polls

According to Vanguard, the electoral commission disclosed this in a bulletin issued on Monday, November 2, in Abuja.

The bulletin stated that the list of cleared candidates for the governorship polls were published by INEC and signed by Farouk Usman, the commission’s acting Secretary.

INEC had also released a document titled: “Kogi Governorship 2015 Final List”, and dated October 9, 2015, which was a list containing the 22 candidates and their running mates according to their parties in alphabetic order.

Out of the forty-two cleared candidates, twenty (20) candidates with their running mates from 20 registered political parties would contest the Bayelsa poll.

The Bulletin also stated that the Kogi state governor, Idris Wada, and his running mate are contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party while their counterpat, Prince Abubakar Audu and his running mate James Faleke, are the flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress.

On the other hand, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, and his running mate, Rear Adm. Gboribiogha Jonah, are the candidates for the PDP.

Also, the former governor of Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva, and his running mate, Wilberforce Igiri, were stated to have been cleared to fly the APC flag.

However, against the allegation by a faction of the APC in Kogi state that its candidate, Prince Audu, is not President Muhammadu Buhari’s preferred candidate, the president has dissociated his office from such advertorial published by the faction of the party.

Meanwhile, the governorship election of Okezie Ikpeazu has been upheld by the Abia state governorship tribunal sitting in Umuahia.

The tribunal subsequently dismissed the petition of Alex Otti, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
